Information and guidelines for abstract submission
The abstracts for evaluation should be submitted through the online UPM events system (see instructions at the end of this guideline). The authors should indicate their preference for presenting: oral communication, poster, or no preference.
Important information: Conference registration for the first author is obligatory. Not paying the registration fee will result in exclusion from the scientific programme and the Book of Abstracts.
The deadline for submitting abstracts is October 1st 2024.
Being registered at the Conference is not requested for submitting the abstract, but first author will have to be registered on November 20th 2024 or before for final acceptance and inclusion in the Book of Abstract.
When receiving the confirmation of acceptance and the assignment for poster or oral communication, assistants will have time enough to register with the reduced registration fee.
SELECTION, PRESENTATION AT THE CONFERENCE AND PUBLICATION
- All submissions will be considered for poster format. However, from among those abstracts that apply for oral presentation, the Scientific Committee will select for oral communication the 12 abstracts considered most appropriate by topic/quality, to be presented in this format.
- The oral presentations will last 15 minutes: 10 minutes of presentation and 5 minutes of questions.
- The posters presentations will last 4 minutes: 2 minutes for presentation and 2 minutes for questions. The posters should have an A1 size (84,1 cm height x 59,4 cm wide). The posters will be presented during the coffee-breaks.
The accepted abstracts will be published in the book of abstracts. Furthermore, the 30 highest rated papers by the Scientific Committee, written in English, will be published in a special issue of the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS:
- The topic and data of the studies must be original (not presented or published previously) and linked with relevant and original aspects regarding personal training and physical activity and health.
- Human studies must comply with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki (last amended in 2008), regarding the use of human subjects, and have included informed consent.
- The abstract should include an INTRODUCTION with the objective of the study, a METHODS section, a summary of the RESULTS and a DISCUSSION where the authors include the conclusion of the study and the practical application(s). A REFERENCES section will also be included. The practical applications will be evaluated with special relevance, and should allow attendees to use the results and conclusions drawn from each abstract in their professional development as a coach.
- The length of the abstracts is limited to 400 words (not including title, authors or affiliations).
- Include funding after the references. The text of the abstract, references and funding should fit within the 400 words, although references may be abbreviated as indicated in the recommended bibliographic style below.
- The maximum number of authors for each abstract is 8.
- The title of the abstract will have a maximum length of 15 words.
- The name (last name and initials, e.g. Sánchez J.A.) and affiliation (do not indicate the degree, only the institution) of all authors must be included.
- The abstract should not contain tables or graphs.
- Only ASCII characters may be used to write the abstracts.
- The units of measurement must be those of the International System.
- The recommended bibliographic style is a short style based in Vancouver, with quotation numbers during the text between brackets, and publications ordered in the list of references, according to the order of appearance in the text. Click on this link to download the book of abstracts of the 2019 edition, with all the accepted abstracts following the aforementioned style.
- The first author must be the corresponding author and the one submitting the abstract, and will be the only one who will receive the information of acceptance of the abstract and other communications. The Scientific Committee will reject the works in which the person who submits the abstract in the platform is not the first and corresponding author.
- For all the accepted abstracts (both posters and oral communications), first author will have to be registered for the Symposium and will present the study.
- It is not allowed to send more than one paper as first author. However, it is possible to be co-author of other papers.
- The submission of more than one abstract as first author is not allowed. However, one author can be co-author of other abstracts.
- Language: English and Spanish are both official languages of the Symposium; and papers may be submitted in both languages. It is also possible to submit the work in English and present it in Spanish and vice versa.
AWARDS:
The best three oral communications and three posters will be awarded.
In order to be awarded the first author, or a representative of the first author, must be present at the award ceremony.
